Riverwalk is already full of fruits and nuts. But this Saturday, April 24, the selection widens. That’s when the Riverwalk Urban Market, sponsored by the Riverwalk Trust, will set up camp in Esplanade Park (SW Second Street, across from the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale).

Starting at 8 a.m. and running until 1 p.m., the market will feature a broad variety of fresh and organic goods.

There will be fresh produce, hydroponic vegetables, homemade jellies,

sauces, bread,

organic pastries, coffee, juices, guacamole, orchids, herbs,

loose teas, fresh and frozen pasta, organic soaps, and even a New

Orleans-style muffelatta spread made by a local couple. In all, 20 to 25

vendors should be setting up shop. According to the vendor coordinator,

Genia Ellis, that number will probably expand over the next few weeks as

other markets finish their seasons.

“The number is changing

by the moment,” says Ellis. “A week ago, I was like, ‘What am I going to

do?’ This week, I’m wondering where I’m going to put everyone.”

The

market could be a big deal for Fort Lauderdale, considering the city

doesn’t have many operating at the moment. And while most markets across

South Florida are seasonal, the Riverwalk Trust hopes to keep the Urban

Market running every Saturday year-round.
