In 2010, co-owners Paula Pace and chef Ernesto Rado closed the 20-year-old Las Olas Cafe and began again with partner Scott Kraft on a new family-style restaurant: the Mason Jar Café. Together, they decided to shed the fine-dining approach of the Las Olas address and set up shop off Federal Highway in Oakland Park. The menu focuses on comfort food, with the menu divided into cutesy sections with titles like “Supper’s Ready” and “Eat Your Vegetables.” It’s stacked with childhood favorites, from macaroni and cheese to homemade meat loaf and chicken-fried chicken. Decorated with autumn-colored faux-flower arrangements and decorative signs (such as: “Remember, stressed spelled backwards is desserts”), the homey Mason Jar helps stress melt away.
