Not only did Harmony Korine's new movie Spring Breakers give us the unholy image of James Franco in cornrows, it also inspired one of modern music's strangest team-ups, a song called "Fancy Bitch" composed by Gucci Mane and Marilyn Manson. Says Mr. Mane in a Fader magazine interview, "We got the dopest record in the world, me and Marilyn. Me and him got one of the craziest records ever made. We made it whatever day Spring Breakers came out in Cali. He came to the sneak premiere, and after we did the red carpet and watched the movie, me and him went to the studio and made us a record."
In the spirit of these strange bedfellows we bring to you in descending order of strangeness, ten of the weirdest musical collaborations.
10. Bing Crosby & David Bowie - "Peace on Earth/ Little Drummer Boy"
At this point it just looks like two old white dudes singing a Christmas carol. But when it was recorded in 1977, it was a drug abusing, androgynous alien singing with the embodiment of wholesome entertainment.
9. Celine Dion & R. Kelly - "I'm Your Angel"
When it hit the top of the charts in 1998, this combo might not have seemed so strange, but now we can't figure out how Celine could be cast for Trapped in the Closet.
8. Willie Nelson & Norah Jones -"Baby It's Cold Outside"
This is a personal favorite of all the songs on the list, even if the age difference between Willie and Norah makes their flirtatious exchange a little creepy.
7. Alice Cooper & Donovan - "Billion Dollar Babies"
I can't imagine two musicians as diametrically opposed in 1973 as the theatrical Alice Cooper and the granola troubadour Donovan. But that is the Sunshine Superman contributing vocals to this Alice Cooper track.
6. Eddie Murphy & Michael Jackson - "Whatzupwitu"
The 1980s funniest man alive, calls up Michael Jackson to perform his funniest skit of the 1990s. What? This was a serious attempt at music. And well, that makes it even funnier.
5. Weezer & Lil Wayne - "Can't Stop Partying"
Say it ain't so! Weezer dove into the gutter with Lil Wayne for this terrible song that becomes what it attempts to parody.
4. Randy "Macho Man" Savage & DJ Kool - "Hit the Floor"
In an attempt to lure Hulk Hogan into the ring, wrestler Macho Man Savage snapped into his rolodex and got DJ Kool to contribute to this track.
3. Bone Thugz N Harmony & Phil Collins - "Home"
Because nobody says gangsta like Phil Collins.
2. Buzz Aldrin & Snoop Dogg - "Rocket Experience"
In an effort to prove the moon landing was not fake, eighty-something Buzz Aldrin proves himself to be a better astronaut than singer. Produced by Snoop Doog who undoubtedly engaged in debates with Aldrin over who between them flew higher.
1. Paula Abdul & MC Skat Kat - "Opposites Attract"
After the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, it seemed natural to have a video where Paula Abdul sang and danced with an animated feline ripped off from a Heathcliff cartoon. Somewhere in Toonville MC Skat Kat is sulking that Paula never got him on American Idol.
