It all started in 1972, when founder John Giragos saw a "for lease" sign while on vacation that caught his eye. The spot was the Ocean View Restaurant in Lake Worth, what would later become one of the city's most popular diners. Today, sons Jay and Keith -- and daughter Wendy -- have taken ownership of the restaurant, keeping with family tradition. Regulars of John G's remember its original, rustic location at Lake Worth Beach where lines would snake from the parking lot, up the sidewalk, and around the block before ending at a table where you'd undoubtedly order a platter of the popular blueberry pancakes, corned beef hash, or Eggs Casino (the owner's version of Eggs Benedict served with ham and tomatoes). Of course, the breakfast crowd knows all about the signature Cinnamon-Nut French toast, thick-sliced bread liberally coated with slice almonds and a hint of cinnamon and sugar. If you don't make it there before noon, don't fear; there's a lineup of hearty lunch items too, from fish and chips and fried clam strips to a series of ethnic-themed burgers and hearty entree-style salads. Just remember, one thing hasn't changed since the relocation: It's still cash only.
