Alec Baldwin reportedly has a “newly discovered medical condition” that could seriously hamper his ability to participate in the upcoming film adaptation of Broadway musical Rock of Ages. This is a sad development for the Fort Lauderdale acting community taking part in casting calls to get into the movie, which is staging performance scenes inside Revolution.

As of this writing, Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bryan Cranston, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, and Mexican pop singer Diego Boneta are still involved.

Baldwin has not officially bowed out of taking part in the movie as Bourbon Room owner Dennis Dupree, but according to New Line’s Toby Emmerich, “Baldwin had just asked New Line to replace him ‘if at all possible,’ even though the actor committed to the movie.”

Well, the 30 Rock star has endeared himself to so many of late that we’re just gonna say it — it’s not at all possible. Both Will Ferrell and Steve Carell already passed on the role. There are only so many “boss-level” stars left in NBC’s Thursday-night lineup, and Baldwin’s the steeliest by far.

Barring an official confirmation from director Adam Shankman’s regularly groomed Twitter account, we can’t bear to take this report too seriously anyhow.
