A giant among giants in the dance scene -- literally and figuratively -- Carl Cox might just be the most renowned techno DJ in the world. Currently ranked number six on TheDJList.com (putting him in company with names like Oakenfold and Sasha), Cox has snagged DJ of the Year kudos from the International Dance Awards and has been a perennial cover boy for prominent rags like Mixmag and Muzik. With a smile as massive as his discography, the 43-year-old Brit has been dropping tracks with a host of labels -- including Oakenfold's Perfecto and Moonshine -- throughout his 20-year career. Though he's known for banging sets fueled by acid and hard-house, Cox has taken occasional detours into breakbeat and tribal (on the F.A.C.T mix trilogy) as well as downtempo (on his Back to Mine set). Regardless of the direction he takes in Miami, the "DJ Diplomat" is sure to be beaming while the crowd is shaking and the music's streaming.

Carl Cox plays with Mark Lewis at 10 p.m. Saturday, October 28, at Crobar, 1445 Washington Ave., Miami Beach. Tickets cost $30 at crobar.com, or call 305-672-8084.
