Arsis at Propaganda, October 8

Propaganda's early no-heavy-music policy has clearly long ago been rescinded, because Saturday's show brings the loudest and most extreme to date at the venue. Headlining a rare South Florida show is Virginia Beach act Arsis, a decade-and-running act devoted to true death metal and pretty much nothing else, save for the occasional touch of thrash. That means no "deathcore" or the trappings of any other genre — just pure, technical, warp-speed drama that plays carefully on the tension between nanoseconds of silence and explosions of pure power. Opening support comes from some the best local acts plying the same musical trade, particularly Miami-based bands Kalakai and At Odds With God.

KEEP NEW TIMES BROWARD-PALM BEACH FREE... Since we started New Times Broward-Palm Beach, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of South Florida, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
