The backlash against Atmosphere is puzzling. Wasn't it just a few years ago that Slug and Ant were THE darlings of the underground hip hop movement? Anyone non-commercial hip-hop fan had an Atmosphere sticker or two on their car, or at least rocked a Lucy Ford CD. Fast forward to today, and most of his loyal underground audience members have turned their backs because he's gotten popular, or sold out, or whatever.
Thankfully, he realized that would happen and just keeps on spitting out the hot lyrics, like on his latest album, When Life Give You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. Sure it's not as introspective as the previous 5 albums, but how much self-starting material can you expect from one lyricist in just over a decade? Tickets for the Revolution show on July 31 go on sale tomorrow for $19.
