Sam, the rotund frontman and trombonist for Big Sam's Funky Nation, will his bring his signature New Orleans big funk and big brass to Miami on July 24. Formerly the trombonist for Dirty Dozen Brass Band, another New Orleans jazz staple, "Big Sam" is one of the six very talented jazz-trained musicians that comprise the Funky Nation. The band's music is a cocktail of improv, warped keys, and soul-driven funk, and will leave you hard-pressed to find a better dance-til-you-drop party anywhere else. Like Big Sam sings in the song "Shake Yo Thang," before a medley of guitar, keys, and brass interrupts, "So come on everybody, let the Nation touch your soul. Now shake shake shake shake yo thang."
