Not even Michael Caine walks both sides of the credibility fence like punk icon Henry Rollins. On one hand, his 2.13.61 publishing house has reintroduced pulp-fiction masters like Hubert Selby Jr. On the other, he's appeared in GAP ads. Last year came the ultimate Rollins dichotomy: Just when it seemed he'd tossed his last shred of cred with a prominent role in Jackass: The Movie, he erased that bad memory by releasing Rise Above, a CD of Black Flag tunes benefiting "The West Memphis Three," the Arkansas teenagers in prison for a murder they likely didn't commit (Bandwidth, May 11, 2000). Rollins' new band, the former Mother Superior, races a cast of former Flag members and punk/metal superheroes (including Iggy Pop, Tom Araya, Keith Morris, and Ryan Adams) through Flag's catalog. While every track is excellent and Dean Ween does the best "Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie" ever, it's still Hank's show all the way. If reviews from the record-release show are any indication, we're in for a treat. Rollins performs at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Ovation, 3637 Federal Hwy., Boynton Beach. Call 561-740-7076.
