Everybody does it. Sometimes people even pay for it. The truth is -- as I'm sure you know -- Cex is well worth the money. To take the metaphor to the next level of freaky-deaky, this type of copulation comes between man and machine. Cex, a.k.a. Ryan Kidwell, is a prolific IDM and glitch-hop producer who drags true human emotion across the digital divide. Layering slinky acoustic samples on top of nail-biting broken beats and fuzzy, blippy machine effects, Cex was crucial in helping Bay Area schizoid Kid606 found his Tigerbeat6 imprint. Like the granddaddy of the genre, Aphex Twin, the more you listen to Cex, the more you understand his mysterious musical intentions. Slowly, evocatively, tempos shift, melodies brood, and eventually heads nod. If you haven't had Cex in a while, you'll definitely get some Saturday night.

Cex plays with Aloha and Weather at 9 p.m. Saturday, January 22, at I/O, 30 NE 14th St., Miami. Tickets cost $10. Call 305-358-8807.
