Churchill's Pub Owner Dave Daniels: Thank You for Everything

Thank you for the drinks, the Scotch eggs and the tiny German roaches that used to parade themselves with all the glitz and glam of a celeb on the red carpet. I hate those fuckers and usually cry like a girl when in the vicinity of one, but sitting at your bar, slugging whiskey and getting drenched in feedback always managed to toughen me up a bit, let me keep control of myself in the presence of others. Thank you.

Thank you for that Eat reunion show on my birthday, a feat conspired upon by the muses and celestial beings, for surely I couldn't have planned that better myself. A night I'll remember until these eyes of mine close for the last time. Thank you.

I could go on and on and on and maybe get a little more personal than my handlers here generally allow and discuss some of the lows and highs and probably illegal things that have occurred on that corner throughout the years. But that will not happen. Regardless of nature in praise, be it eulogia or elegiac, there's something macabre that suggests passing. The only thing passing for right now is your hand at the ship's helm captain, that's all. You go on and enjoy your retirement. If the new owners decide to go crazy and turn that corner into a boutique, my column then will reflect those sentiments.

No. Churchill's is not over. Dave Daniels' retirement will likely soon be starting. Thank you for letting us play there, drink there, and most importantly, thank you for letting us slowly wreck your home, all the while looking on as the contented father we've grown to love you as.
