After sitting vacant for nearly two years, the space formerly known as City Limits in Delray Beach has been brought back to life as Pineapple Groove.
Brothers Mitch and Richard Clarvit bought the 8,000 square-foot facility that lies just east of the train tracks at 19 NE 3rd Ave. and gave it a snazzy facelift, installing top-of-the-line acoustics and professional-grade lighting throughout. The Clarvits bring a 30-plus year music business résumé to the new venue. Both are seasoned songwriters with Mitch having written over 180 original numbers and Richard -- also a prominent South Florida entertainment lawyer -- currently charting at 39 on the FMQB Adult Contemporary Charts with his gushy holiday track "Season of Love."
The two have linked up with Randy Grinter, owner and operator of
over 15 clubs in our area, who will serve as executive producer, and
Michael Stone -- poet, musician, actor and most notably, actress Sharon
Stone's brother -- has been tapped as operations manager.
Touting the motto "no bad vibes allowed," the 500-capacity locale
promises to bring the best in local and national entertainment to
downtown Delray Beach.
Mitch Clarvit will be hosting a songwriter
and new artist night on Thursdays, offering local artists a chance to
perform in a venue that "was built specifically to provide big show
production" according to Grinter. The group is also working on a Blues
Brothers Show and party planned for New Year's Eve.
The "Best of Homegrown Concert Series" christens this new Palm Beach
County music venue this weekend. With the help of local recording label Nevernothing Records
head Brent Williams, this two-night run of stellar local talent begins
on Friday, December 17. The kickoff night is the most stacked of the
two, with Miami chanteuse Rachel Goodrich
leading the way. This appearance by the Tiny Tim-loving performer is
said to be one of her last in South Florida; the talented
singer-songwriter leaving to seek greener pastures in Southern
California next year.
Goodrich will be joined by exploratory funk fusion
outfit Fusik and Mike Mineo
and his off-centered pop. Mineo will headline Saturday night, where
the eccentric musician is said to be performing with two Opera trained
backup singers, Lori Button and Katharine Yarbrough, instead of his
usual backup band. He will be joined by Spred the Dub and its psychedelically-charged Rasta stomp.
