The local super-indie label Destroyio Records made it all the way to the finals of Miami New Times' recent Mastermind Awards contest this past winter. That was not a small feat, considering the artsy-fartsy, more "establishment"-type entries in the pool. The one-man operation deserves plenty of credit for keeping proper punk rock alive, the way it's meant to be. That's raw, real, and loud, more about hand-drawn flyers, cheap shows wherever people will have them, and a participatory, communal spirit - not the super-slickness of latter-day, overly groomed bands who try to pass for "punk."

Destroyio's latest showcase is this Thursday at, of course, Churchill's, and celebrates the label's release of a CD by Baker Acted, a politically conscious, five-member, coed group that, as its name promises, is a little unhinged. A million other bands are on the bill, of course, but particularly worth checking out are sludgy heavyweights Consular, and the old school pogo-worthy, bilingual trio Guerrilleros de Nadie.

Baker Acted. With the Ticks, Consular, Guerrilleros de Nadie, and others. 9 p.m. Thursday, April 29. Churchill's Pub, 5501 NE 2nd Ave., Miami. Admission is $5; age 21 and up; 305-757-1807; churchillspub.com
