Down with the Sound

The M3 Summit's Bridge and Tunnel rump-shaker, presented by arbiters of urban hip Triple 5 Soul, The FADER, and Turntable Lab, features a slew of up-and-comers as well as music's current "it" girl. SA-RA Creative Partners is a bicoastal trio of producers turned performers. Previously beatmakers for Dr. Dre, Jurassic 5, and Erykah Badu, theirs is a funky blend of hip-hop, R&B, and soul. Hollertronix is both the DJ team of Diplo and Low Budget and the name for their Philly club night. Mashing new wave into Dirty South, their tongue-in-cheek turntabling has been endorsed by XLR8R and the New York Times. But the night belongs to headliner Maya Arulpragasam, a.k.a. M.I.A. Hailing from Sri Lanka, the U.K.-based visual artist-cum-hip-hop star is gracing the glossies for her exhilarating amalgamation of grime, hip-hop, dancehall, and pop. As she makes abundantly clear on her debut Arular, you "can't stereotype my thing, yo."

Bridge and Tunnel starts at 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at I/O Lounge, 30 NE 14th St., Miami. Free tickets must be picked up in advance at Urban Outfitters, 653 Collins Ave., Miami, between 3 and 6 p.m. Call 305-358-8007.
