Now listening to M.I.A.’s second mixtape of her career, Vicki Leekx. This 36-minute single track emerged over the weekend, and it seems to be no less fiery than MAYA, an album we actually liked in spite of the massive truffle fry inconsistencies (“Born Free” video wasn’t exactly kind to ginger-haired young men but remains an indicative moment of 2010).

Although 2004’s Piracy Funds Terrorism, Volume 1 will probably always be Maya Arulpragasam’s finest mixtape (and some would argue her finest release to date), there are joys aplenty here. More production via Diplo, Switch, Blaqstarr, Danjahands, and others. Hop to “Gen N-E-Y” and “Bad Girls” to hear a couple of tracks worthy of figuring into a future album cycle. Download link and tracklisting are below.
