Here's a ridiculous statement: Fishbone is opening for Slightly Stoopid. Fishbone opening for anyone is extremely stupid. The venerable Los Angeles ska-punk-funk forebears are probably the best live band you will ever have the sweat-drenched, moshariffic privilege of seeing while we still care about such things. They set the stage for the very existence of stoney cronies/Sublime spawn Slightly Stoopid, which only intensifies the ridiculousness of them literally setting the stage for them at the Culture Room. If you're too young to remember the first coming of Primus or when the Chili Peppers were produced by George Clinton, you've probably never heard watermark Fishbone anthems like "Bonin' in the Boneyard" or "Housework." Thankfully, singer/saxman/thereminist/poet/filmmaker/insane genius Angelo Moore (a.k.a. Dr. Madd Vibe), Fishbone's fearless leader since it first swam upstream in the early '80s, and the rest of the band are here to educate. If you're looking to get slightly less stupid, that is.

Fishbone opens for Slightly Stoopid at 8 p.m. Monday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 3, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $14.99. Call 954-564-1074.
