Five Things to Do Under $5 This Weekend

Grab a beer. Get dressed up. And dig $5 in change out from under the Funyuns-flavored cushions of that old mustard-colored armchair. It's the weekend, people. And it's time to party.

Now maybe your bank account is still recovering for Tortuga. Or maybe you’re tapped out just from paying the bills. Either way, one thing is for certain: your ass is broke. But that doesn’t mean you gotta stay home.

Where you wanna go? Fort Lauderdale? West Palm? The Springs? Lake Worth? Well, there is five-buck fun to be had in all of those hoods, from tonight's live tuneage at Johnny Q's Restaurant & Sports Lounge to tomorrow's Lord of the Rings-themed burlesque show at Respectable Street to Sunday's Record Store Day 2015 mini-fest at Radio-Active.

Here are five things to do under $5 this weekend in South Florida.

Read on and stay cheap!
5. Rockin' Jake

8 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Johnny Q's Restaurant & Sports Lounge, 3801 10th Ave. N., Palm Springs; 561-433-9800; johnnyqsrestaurant.com.

Start your weekend off right with a Rockin' Jake concert tonight! Harmonica heavy, this dude is sure to help you rock. Expect plenty of white-guy dance moves. No shame! 4. Tolkien It Off

10 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach; 561-832-9999; respectablestreet.com. $8 cover.

Who says nerdy can't be sexy? Certainly not the ladies at Respectable Street! Enter Tokein It Off, a burlesque show dedicated to Lord of the Rings author J.R. Tolkein. But don't call the vertically challenged men at the place Frodo — that's just not nice. 3. Unleash at Jump the Shark

9 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Jump the Shark, 810 NE Fourth Ave., Fort Lauderdale; 954-667-4126; facebook.com/jumpthesharkevents. No cover.

Party like an animal this weekend at Jump the Shark. Music by DJ Tonx and other bands will help you unleash your dancing tiger. Expect the unexpected: vaudeville acts, acrobats, fire dancing. 2. Audioplayground Entertainment Family's 20th Birthday

8 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Propaganda, 6 S. J St., Lake Worth; 561-547-7273; propagandalw.com. $6 early-bird cover from 7 to 9 p.m. and $10 after.

Audioplayground Entertainment Family celebrates its 20th birthday this weekend, AKA two decades of being musically awesome. Come join the festivities at Propoganda for some live art and, of course, music. The lineup includes Telekinetic Walrus and the Pride of Lions, Seizure Machine, Enoc and Dr. Skitzo. Expect music, music, and more music. 1. Record Store Day at Radio-Active Records

8 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Radio-Active Records, 845 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale; 954-762-9488; radio-active-records.tumblr.com. No cover.

It's Record Store Day on Saturday, and what better place to celebrate than at Radio-Active Records? The eighth-annual celebration will feature Djs such as Bento, Alex Casso, Gramps, Blue and more. Aside from filling your appetite for music, your appetite for good eats will be fulfilled as well with gourmet vegan hot dogs, boba, and Outside the Box food trucks. $1 CD sales and records complete this snazzy event.
