Fourth of July Events in Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach County

Our nickname is Fort Liquordale for a pretty good reason. We like to booze. We like to party. Any excuse, just give us one. And just because it falls in the middle of the week, doesn't mean we can't celebrate

the Fourth of July in true, proud, and drunken American style.

The rest of this steamy tri-county area shares the same party-monger sentiments and has a fair share of events planned for Independence Day. From free outdoor music festivals to pie-eating contests, and a slew of waterfront fireworks displays, there's something for everyone.

So, for those brave souls willing to spend the following work day with a nasty hangover in the name of America, take a look at our list of our picks for Fourth of July happenings in Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach County.

10. Boston's on the Beach Red White and Blues Festival
Kicking off on Friday, Boston's on the Beach hosts a six-day, five stage festival in Delray Beach. The festivities will include everything from live music to food, and of course a fireworks show on Wednesday night. Tickets for the event on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are available here. There is free admission on Friday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

9. Red, White, and Blues on the Ave.
The city of Delray Beach is really showing off its patriotic spirit this year. On July 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., there will be three stages of blues music on Atlantic Avenue. Several of the bars and restaurants on the strip will be serving cocktails and beer specials. There is also going to be an "Open Air Gallery" Contemporary Art Show.

8. Classic July Fourth Celebration
Didn't we say Delray Beach is really going big this year? On Wednesday, the city is kicking things off bright and early with a sand sculpting contest beginning at 8 a.m., it's free to enter. Boston's on the Beach will be hosting a special street side brunch, and at a 2:30 p.m., there will be a 60-foot flag raising over Atlantic Avenue. 7. Reel Big Fish
Put on your best red, white, and blue wardrobe and skank it out for America. Everyone's favorite ska band, Reel Big Fish, returns to Fort Lauderdale with Big D and the Kids Table and Suburban Legends at Revolution Live. Show begins at 6 p.m., tickets cost $17.50 with fees.

6. Fourth of July Spectacular
Fort Lauderdale is celebrating Independence Day by transforming the A1A strip into a free party all day long. Beginning at 1 p.m., DJs and live bands like Community Property and Savannah Madison take the stage. A1A will be closed from Las Olas to Castillo Street until 1 a.m., with a fireworks show setting off at 9 p.m.

5. Sister Hazel and Jacob Jeffries Band
Sister Hazel will headline a free outdoor concert with the Jacob Jeffries Band at BankAtlantic Center. Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be an assortment of food, kiddie rides, family activities, and a fireworks display.

4. Star-Spangled Spectacular on Hollywood Beach
At 1 p.m., DJ Chulo will kick things off in Hollywood. Throughout the day, there will be an assortment of kids activities, arts and crafts along the street, and a live performance from Pocket Change in the beach theater. The night will end with a fireworks display over the beach.

3. Watch Back to the Future at Cinema Paradiso
The new "Secret Cinema" series gets going on July 4 with a special all day celebration and viewing of Back to the Future at 4 p.m.. Festivities begin at 2 p.m., and there's going to be a costume contest, food trucks, and an outdoor film screening.

2. Party at the Park
Celebrate America by betting on horses. Starting at 4 p.m., Gulfstream Park will have a little bit of something for everyone with live music and a fireworks spectacular. While your husband bets on the races, take the kids to enjoy some free fun with carnival food, pony rides, and bounce houses.

1. Fourth on Flagler
This Independence Day extravaganza features live

display over the Intracoastal Waterway. The fun begins at 5 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m.
