With this double bill, it seems the fine administrators of the City of San Diego have assembled an audio/visual review, straight from their beachside city to ours. The brochure might read something like: Get your indie on with Goodbye Blue Monday, which boasts angular guitars and a rock-solid rhythm section! You’ll be dazzled by their dexterity in a little something known as “jamming” and “extended instrumentals”! There will be vocals countered by moments of free-ranging punk and improvisational exploration! Then soothe yourself off that buzz with the ethereal indie rock of Ilya! Let muted hues of trip-hop fold into jazz-pop as songstress Blanca Rojas navigates her quartet over gorgeous melodies and full harmonies! It’s indie-rock lite for those jangled nerves! Both bands have new full-length albums, so open your arms to neighborly love and welcome a little piece of SD into the FLA! Or something like that.
Ilya and Goodbye Blue Monday perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 11, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $8. Call 561-832-9999.
