A button-down sanctuary for bluehairs and snowbirds, Boca Raton is probably the least rock ‘n’ roll place in South Florida (maybe America). But sometimes you find the sweetest things in the strangest places. Take for instance, Amp Fest ’05, two hot and heavy nights of raucous local rock of all shapes and sizes. The bill is stocked with hard-drivin’ South Florida mainstays: Two Story Double Wide, Lost, My Love?, Stereo 9, Truckstop Coffee, 5th Gear, SAQ, Curse Icon, Stillkept, Trendkill, 5 Skin, Madsic, Spork, and 3rd Grade in July. Imagine alt.country crooners, punkabilly playboys, nü-metal Hessians, and the Fat Wrechords crowd all nestled on the dance floor like a big, happy family. For all you schizophrenics in dire need of an eclectic dose of the sounds littering our state, this shindig is your mug of Pabst. And if you’re already deep in the scene, you’re gonna be there anyway.
Twenty-nine bands play Amp Fest ’05, starting at 6 p.m. Friday, March 11, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Surf Cafe, 395 NE Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton. Tickets cost $7 per day. Call 561-392-1965.
