The Fridays at the Vagabond crew consistently books national acts that are on the edge of mass consciousness or just below the radar, and, this Friday's show by the Los Angeles band Gliss continues in that vein. The trio has moved past being the hype of being Billy Corgan's favorite band back in 2007, continuing to gain cred as a legitimate powerhouse of noisy, sexy, beautiful pop music. They reach Miami in the midst of a massive national tour supporting their latest album, Devotion Implosion. via www.myspace.com/gliss
Gliss has garnered numerous references to the Velvet Underground and basically any other cool, yet fucked up, band of the last 25 years. The comparisons are not undeserved or off base. The songs have just enough hooks in them to keep you entranced and are varied and rough enough to keep you guessing. With this booking, Lauren Reskin, Jason "Man-Kitten" Jimenez, and Carmel Ophir continue to deliver on their promise to keep the downtown scene fresh, alive and full of fantastic music.
