Guitar Gurus

Supergroups seem to be the new "in" thing these days. Everyone from Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction fame to Damon Albarn is putting them together, but none of those supergroups has anything on old-time indie outfit G3, comprised of Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, and John Petrucci. Who? you ask. Don't act like you don't remember `90s one-hit-wonders Mr. Big and their tune "To Be With You." Hmm, us neither. But that was Gilbert, guitar god extraordinaire, in his prime. His buddies Satriani and Petrucci — famous in their own right — are equally talented whenever guitars and arena rock are involved. That's the essence of the group — G3 rocks out for guys and gals who love hair metal, Aerosmith, thrash riffs, and solid guitar playing of any variety. While they may not be stars of the MTV variety, they're all guitar legends, and this show should be a required field trip for all the wannabe rawkers of Broward/West Palm who want to learn how to play guitar like a badass. This is G3's fifth North American tour, but it's the first time Gilbert is touring with the band, so break out your throwback Mr. Big T-shirts and get ready to party.

G3 performs Thursday, March 29, at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, 1806 NE Sixth St., Pompano Beach. Tickets cost $65. Show starts at 7 p.m. Call 561-966-3309, or visit
