For the past couple of years, Bobby Yapkowitz has been writing songs that have a traditional country feel. Think Gram Parsons, not Toby Keith. This past November, Yapkowitz and a few friends, including tattoo shop and Eulogy Recordings magnate John Wylie, decided that they could add something to the tunes. Enter the Heavy Boots, a country band filled with dudes more accustomed to playing punk, ska, and hardcore. The sound has a classic feel but is delivered in a fresh, energetic, fun way.

Friday will be the Heavy Boots' first visit to Broward County, and it's shaping up to be a wild party. Also on the bill are swamp-a-billy friends Everymen, whom Wylie manages, and Miami country act Los Bastardos Magnificos. The show will be the CD-release party for the Bastardos' new studio effort, and there will be recent recordings from the Heavy Boots available too. The guys are waiting to compile some more recordings before offering an official release, hopefully by this summer.
