Those missing the late, great but short-lived Miami act Beings might be cheered to know that at least a third of the trio — and one of the coolest thirds — has already gone on to form a new project. Drummer Betty Monteavaro’s new project is Holly Hunt, also featuring fellow artiste Gavin Perry for something a little more cerebral and a little less pogo-friendly than Beings’ sloppy party punk. The bearded Perry seemingly never met an effects pedal he didn’t like, toying with all kinds of low-end rumblings that make the band’s lack of a bass player irrelevant. Holly Hunt, so far, has no singer either, but no matter. Perry and Monteavaro are more than capable of turning out a promising, earth-rumbling blend of pure sludge rock that demands a lot of attention and slow head banging.
