Hot Topic

It might not sport as many notches on its silver-spiked belt, but this year's Zippo Hot Tour had something the Vans Warped Tour didn't: local draw. Fort Lauderdale's Trendkill battled seven local bands in venues across Broward and Palm Beach, eventually beating out other hard rockers like Higher Zenith and Kaleido. Though they didn't win the grand prize, the band did gain some well-deserved recognition.

The quartet, which plays intricate, darkly melodic hard rock, has paid their dues. They've been on the South Florida scene for over six years and have gigged up and down the state. Saturday they team up with some of the area's heaviest, hardest groups in a killer quadruple bill. Be warned: Heads will bang. Trendkill plays with Curse Icon, 5Skin, and Stillborn Panic at 10 p.m., Saturday, February 12, at Surf Café, 395 NE Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton. The show is free. Call 561-392-1965.
