There used to be a time when jazz artists were seen as the sex symbols of pop music. A lot of ladies in the '50s and '60s would tell you in a heartbeat that there was nothing sexier than a man with a horn. If that's true for men, the same should be said for women horn players, right? Although there aren't a lot of examples out there to support such a theory, 24-year-old Mexican-American saxophone player Jessy J must be about the sexiest horn player you'll ever see. She's gorgeous — let's get the obvious out of the way first. She's hot, young, and Latin, and she could easily be a model or a video vixen if that were her aim. But it's not, and just because she's the hottest thing to hit the jazz circuit since Diana Krall doesn't mean for a second that's she's not talented when it comes to music. She routinely tours with Michael Bublé, Jessica Simpson, and Michael Bolton, and her latest disc, Tequila Moon, is blowing up the contemporary jazz charts. She's in town for two gigs. One is a CD-release party at Jazziz Lounge to celebrate her cover story in this month's Jazziz magazine, and the second is with the touring band Guitars and Saxes, which fuses smooth jazz and pop in a way that's actually respectable.
