The Virginia-born singer, songwriter, and serial jammer tells us that he plans “to rock” as he returns to South Florida with a full band instead of relying solely on his acoustic guitar and Gibson Echoplex delay system that he used the last time he was in town. “It will be a very electric show. We will not be using live sampling or looping — it will be a four-piece band with guitars, bass, and drums,” he explains. Williams is touring to promote his new disc, 12 (SciFi), but that doesn’t mean he will showcase only new music. “I never tour behind the album,” he explains. “I try to make every show different, and I always check past set lists to make sure of that.” He says that, while he’s grateful for having people come to his gigs around the country, he does find South Florida audiences far friendlier than those in larger cities. “They are friendly and laid-back and also hungry to be entertained,” he explains. “In places like New York, it’s more difficult because of that ‘been there, done that’ attitude. Florida has a more appreciative crowd, and that is a mentality that is easier to play to.”
