South Floridians too often forget that this country has much of its roots in Country. Heck, as last week's New Times interview made plain, even T-Pain is down with the twang.
Of course, the folks who hit the Davie Pro Rodeo stay in the know, as do those who tune-in to Kiss Country Radio. And starting this Friday, the family of friends behind America's Backyard wanna be sure you do too.
They're calling the new series the Kiss Country (that's 99.9 on the radio dial) Power Happy Hour, and New Times got ABY's own Elizabeth Furiati to fill us in.
New Times: For those few who don't yet know, just what is America's Backyard?
Elizabeth Furiati: America's Backyard, South Florida's largest outdoor party, is a 15,000 sq. ft. fun interactive outside facility located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Whether its ladies hula hooping on the bar, live music, or your favorite DJ spinning, you'll never know what's next at the Backyard.
How do you figure into the equation?
I am the Marketing Director. It is my job to make sure that we are throwing the best party in Fort Lauderdale and to ensure that everyone is invited to it!
Who else is in on the action?
Backyard takes an amazing team of people keep it moving. From owner Jeff John (also of Revolution Live and Stache), to every manager, bartender, barback, DJ, doorman and hostess -- we are all in on the action to make sure that our guests are having a good time.
What's the what with the new Friday Happy Hour?
Our Kiss Country Power Happy Hour is the best way to begin your weekend. Hosted by AM Drive DJ U-Turn Laverne every Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., we get the opportunity celebrate the best time of the week: the weekend. We feature 2-4-1 drinks, 99 cent Bud Lite, and we have plenty of giveaways; from T-shirts to concert tickets. This weekend we have Undercover Concert Tickets to give away and you can't buy those anywhere.
Who have you got slated to stage?
This Friday, we have Stone Glory, on August 22, we have the amazing Andrew Morris Band, and on the 29th, Bobby Lee Rodgers. There is never a cover for these great shows. Shows are currently being booked in September and will be announced soon.
How'd all this Kiss Country stuff come about anyway?
Our partnership with Kiss Country is not a new one. Country music is really America's music. And what better place to highlight that than in America's Backyard.
Do partygoers get extra points for speaking with a twang?
Hell Yeah!
