One of the best things about Florida's isolated musicians is their sense of humor. Or rather, their take on where conventional humor diverges from good taste, as elaborated in their band names. Remember Dead German Tourist? Lethal Yellow? Gay Cowboys in Bondage? Add to the list Phantom Limb. These guitar-driven metal monsters take their cue from the psychological ailing of recent amputees... and they'll be taking the stage at Gumwrappers in the hope that their music will attract more attention than the pasties-clad dancers at this Fort Lauderdale watering hole. Lead singer Kofi's antics ought to make for some good visuals -- but then again, there are those babes to compete with. Good luck, guys. Also on stage will be melodic, hard-rock/metal outfit Mindspin, who'll be fine-tuning its act for an upcoming full-length debut. Come with plenty of bills for the ladies and the bar, and expect to lose more than your cash. (I'm talking about your hearing.)

Phantom Limb and Mindspin perform at 10 p.m. Friday, August 19, at Gumwrappers, 3233 N. Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets for guys are $5. Ladies are admitted free. Call 954-565-9264.
