Last year was especially good for classic metal in South Florida, as all of the big four — Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica — made it to the area for headlining shows, and Slayer played a brain-blasting set at the Mayhem Festival. Now we get blasted again courtesy of Slayer and Megadeth's co-headlining American Carnage tour at Bayfront Park Amphitheater.
Rather than tour behind new material, both bands are joining the recent trend of playing landmark albums in full. (Actually, Priest did that on its last South Florida stop, playing British Steel note for note at Hard Rock Live). Both are also tackling landmark 1990 albums: Slayer will shred through Seasons in the Abyss, and Megadeth will tackle Rust in Peace. In fact, it was behind these records that the two acts last toured together, on 1991's Clash of the Titans tour. We think Dave Mustaine sums it all up best: "If you missed us playing with our friends Slayer back in the '90s, well, here's your chance to make it up to yourself," he says. "If you miss it this time, well then you ain't metal anyway!"
