Over the past 15 years or so, Jamaican dancehall has been fusing more and more with American urban music. It's really been reflected in the last few in the lineup of Best of the Best, the biggest dancehall-centric concert of the year in South Florida. Hip-hop artists have been figuring more and more prominently on the concert's bill, and this year is no exception. Yesterday, festival organizers announced the addition of local hero Rick Ross (with cohort Magazeen) and white-hot femme-fatale MC Nicki Minaj. They join Gucci Mane, DJ Khaled, and Diddy on the non-Caribbean roster of artists.CC by 2.0, via xxmisa on Flickr
Other additions announced yesterday include the legends Capleton and Barrington Levy, as well as newer act T.O.K.
The concert takes place Sunday, May 30 at Bicentennial Park in downtown MIaim, and will be feted at area superclubs with pre-parties and afterparties all Memorial Day Weekend. Tickets currently cost $44 for general admission, $100 for VIP, and prices will increase on May 1. Visit bestofthebestconcert.com to buy.
