It’s too hot these days to wear black, but make an exception for the South Flocal Soundcheck, a glimpse of some of the most talented and active hard-rock acts currently kicking ass around town (and swinging for the national backside). One such act is Nigh Horizon — driving rock sweetly imbued with a melodic touch reminiscent of Incubus and Our Lady Peace. The band recently released its debut album, Immovable, and will soon kick off a national tour. On the political front, the band has aligned itself with the anti-environmentalism group Exploit the Earth or Die.

Also stomping the stage will be hardcore/metal outfit My Amends, which recently toured in China. In addition to the 2010 release of debut EP That of a Lion and a spring tour, My Amends wrote and released a song called “I’d Like You to See” to aid the efforts of South Florida Human Rights Torch Relay, a local humanitarian group, to raise awareness of alleged abuses being committed in China against Falun Gong spiritual practitioners. Rounding out the evening will be four other high-octane rock groups all geared up to split your ears.
