They say copycatting is the highest form of flattery, but does that count when your ex dresses up as you for Halloween?
Sum 41 singer and guitarist Deryck Whibley somehow convinced current girlfriend Ari Cooper to dress up as his ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, and her new fiance, Nickleback's Chad Kroeger, for a Halloween party. Albeit a hilarious effort, it might've been less creepy had it not come from an ex-husband. Avril has yet to comment, but her new beau came to the rescue via Twitter, "Hey Deryck, loved the costumes. We were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes. haha!" Still not too sure if those two should consider themselves anymore relevant than Sum 41, but we'll let it slide.
This hasn't been the first time musicians have dressed as other musicians -- so meta -- in celebration of Halloween. Take a look below at our list of below.
10. Pearl Jam as Devo
In 2009, Pearl Jam donned the red hats and yellow jumpsuits and did it up Devo-style for its Halloween show. The band took it a step further and performed "Whip It" for the crowd. Yes, Eddie, you can whip it, whip it good.
9. Katy Perry as Freddie Mercury
Usually dressed as a sexy piece of candy, Katy Perry switched it up a bit one Halloween as she did her best impression of Freddie Mercury. We give her an A for effort. (Side note: Can we discuss the Joker photobombing in the background? Creepy.)
8. Rob Thomas as Michael Jackson
We do love Michael Jackson, but we could have gone without seeing Matchbox 20's frontman dressed as him circa the Thriller years. That wig is just tragic. The guitarist as Slash was definitely a little easier on the eyes.
7. P Diddy as Prince
This year P Diddy showed up as the one and only Prince. We're just going to go ahead and let the picture do all the talking.
6. Adam Levine as Axl Rose
and
5. James Valentine as Andrew WK
The Maroon 5 boys are never a bore when it comes to dressing up for Halloween. But all we really want to know is, did Adam Levine stuff his pants or not.
4. Kanye West as Michael Jackson
Another Michael Jackson costume attempt, and we're sad to say Kanye's effort is pretty lackluster. He's got a lot of money; he should have hired a professional makeup artist for some zombie makeup. We were more impressed by the cleverness of "Bee-yonce."
3. Metallica's James Hetfield as Elvis
At least now we know that James Hetfield could make it in Vegas as an Elvis impersonator.
2. Superchunk as the Misfits
It wouldn't be Halloween without at least one band doing a Misfits cover. Superchunk loved it so much, they did it two years in a row.
1. Russell Simmons as "Rev. Run"
Technically Russell Simmons isn't a musician, but it's pretty hilarious that he went as his brother for Halloween.
