Smitty and the Pink Robots just doesn't have the same ring to it
It's strange enough that the Flaming Lips will not perform tomorrow evening at SunFest due to an unknown medical emergency involving their guitarist. Follow that up with the revelation that a Buzz 103 morning DJ is the last-minute replacement.

According to SunSentinal.com, one of the three hosts on Buzz 103.1's "The Morning Buzz," Bryan "Smitty" Smith, and his band Ladies and Gentlemen, described as "melody-driven rock, spiked with irreverent humor" will take over the gap in the lineup. We checked out the band's MySpace, and there's a dub-style cover of Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks."

Technically, Bedouin Soundclash is replacing the Lips in the 9:15 p.m. slot, and Ladies and Gentlemen will play at 7:30 p.m. Admittedly, the SunFest folks were likely in a mad scramble to find someone on such short notice, but this announcement still has to be a blow for any number of talented local bands. Paging Propaganda's Steve Rullman!
