It's taken a while for women to really step up to the plate as DJs and producers in what is an otherwise male-dominated sausage fest of an international EDM scene. More and more of the ladies have been making their mark in the last decade, though, and few have enjoyed such explosive commercial success as Toronto-based electro-house sensation Joanne Hill or, as the world knows her, Sydney Blu. Having established herself firmly in Toronto's nightlife scene after a 6-year DJ residence at that city's top big-room nightclub, Guvernment, by the late 2000's she was trying her hand at original production work. Picking up some production tips and support from fellow Canadian pal Joel Zimmerman a.k.a. the world-renowned Deadmau5, Blu released her debut single "Give It Up For Me" on his Mau5trap label in 2008. This insidious bass-driven monster of an electro-house record shot straight to No.1 on Beatport, where it stayed for a couple of months, and remains one of the most massively successful singles ever released on the online store. Fast forward to the new decade and Sydney Blu heads her own label, Blu Music, and continues to make the rounds at top international venues like Space Ibiza, Pacha in New York City, and Stereo in Montreal. Meanwhile her tracks, comprising a high-energy uptempo blend of electro-house and melodic techno, continue to be charted by such high-profile DJs as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and Funkagenda, and garner mainstream acclaim. Sydney Blu will be returning to her regular Miami haunt, club Mansion, for an exclusive set on Saturday night.
