There's an obvious kinship between roots music and punk rock. When you break it down, there probably isn't anything more DIY than grabbing an acoustic guitar and just lettin' loose. Perhaps that's why there have been so many local shows that mix the two genres lately (e.g., Wayne Hancock, Legendary Shack Shakers, Psycho Devilles). Hitting town this week is the drummerless, Austin-based rockabilly trio the Two Timin' Three. Guitarists Eric Laufer and Jeff Herring and upright bassist Shane Kiel bring an old-timey sensibility to their music's inherent recklessness. You won't miss the drums; substitute a little Chet Atkins-style six-string and Bill Haley-style oomph and you've got enough Texas swing to make the late, great Bob Wills roll over like Beethoven.

The Two Timin' Three perform with Slip and the Spinouts at 10 p.m. Thursday, August 3, at Maguire's Hill 16, 535 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Admission costs $5. Call 954-764-4453, or visit www.lowfidelityevents.com.
