Born in Italy and residing in Fort Lauderdale, Constantino "Mixmaster" Padovano might embody the Atlantic-to-Mediterranean connection better than anyone. At a young age, Padovano delved deeply into the late '70s NYC club scene, DJing at legendary debauches like Limelight and the Tunnel and cultivating the sound and style of dance music when it was most malleable. He's one of the original globetrotting DJs, spinning records -- many of them self-produced -- in hot spots around the world and making Miami his current club scene of choice. Spiking four-on-the-floor house beats with hard tribal drums, Latin rhythms, ethereal vocals, and plenty of reverb, Padovano's sound is soulful, sexy, and dark. It's especially so when he takes on his musical alter-ego, Funky Junction, the side of Padovano that emerges in the wee hours, when the sweat really hits the hardwood and the club becomes the canvass for a true master.
