It can be said that punk-rock vocalists often sound a bit dog-like, what with all the frenzied barking that only a lyric sheet could decipher (though, in crit-speak, the correct term's probably something like canine-esque). But the ruff-ruff-styled backups on the Sleeparounds' "Shitty Party" aren't coming from lead vocalist Devin Nelson but, um, from his dog, Franky. OK, so it's only one part of one song, but it speaks albums about the band's fun, don't-give-a-shit attitude. It's an attitude that's right in line with the Sleeparounds' music, which faithfully (and unapologetically) sticks to the Ramones/Queers script — three-chords, three-note guitar leads, catchy choruses, and lyrics that would make Joey Ramone blush. According to bassist Eric Ridgemont, the band's forthcoming Baking Things With Light "might make you wet your toes." Well, better that than Franky.

The Sleeparounds join Monday Morning Mixtape, Fake Problems, and Stunna on Saturday, December 23, at Backbone Music, 61 SE Fourth Ave., Delray Beach. The show starts at 7 p.m. Admission costs $5. Call 561-266-2663, or visit www.myspace.com/backbonemusic.
