Five college kids of drinking age are vacationing in the woods, AKA the outskirts of South Federal Highway, near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The cabin, called the Monterey Club, where they had been enjoying beer,
cider, and wine, has now become possessed. Creepy things lurk around
the cushy couches, the pool table, perhaps the bar. They stand
demonically on top of the animal-print rugs. They're zombies. Yes, even
those college kids.
Thursday, this rockabilly/retro-themed bar will be
full of the evil dead. So smear the blood. Dismember a limb by taping
your right arm to your side, because the Promethean Theatre is trekking
over to Monterey for an "Evil Dead Zombie Prom Fundraiser."
The Promethean Theatre needs blood and props for its upcoming theater production Evil Dead the Musical, opening August 20, which mixes the classic cult films Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness
into one fun musical stage play. See the musical, but first become a
zombie yourself. Besides conducting a few giveaways, Tate's Comics will
host an "Evil Dead Zombie" costume contest. There will also be a special
appearance by Taso Stavrakis, who is known as the "most killed zombie" in Day and Dawn of the Dead as well as appearances by the cast of Evil Dead the Musical. The guest DJ will be Radio-Active Records' Mike Ramirez,
who is well-known for providing a killer soundtrack to the night.
Bash
starts at 9 p.m. at the Monterey Club (2608 S. Federal Highway, Fort
Lauderdale). Entry is $5, and all that pay goes to obtaining blood and
fun killing stuff, so to a good cause... well, in this case. Call
954-598-1887, or visit themontereyclub.net. Thu., Aug. 5, 9 p.m., 2010
