While mega-fests like Bonnaroo seem to be multiplying like sweaty, monstrous, Day-Glo rabbits with a thousand faces (including Paul McCarntey's visage front and center), the occurrence of super fun local and regional festies continues across the country. Here in Florida, we've got several, including Orange Blossom Jamboree which is happening this weekend just up the road in Brooksville, Florida.

Unlike the Super Bowl-sized fests, neither the line-up nor ticket price of OBJ will cause your heart to race and eyes to pop out of your skull. But that's not the point. What can be expected and cherished at OBJ is a laid back communal experience with a stellar cast of musicians setting the tone all weekend.

Here, New Times would like to clue you in on a few of the artists attendees ought to be sure to check out.

1. The Funky Nuggets

The Nuggets may be among the lesser known bands on the line-up, but that won't be the case for long. After creating a happy-faced stir at Aura Fest 2013 by throwing their own silent disco in the woods and orchestrating a 4/20 tour through Colorado this past April, the Nuggets fun-spirit and following seem to be growing with each outing. This band is on fire. Not to be missed.

2. The Heavy Pets

South Florida jam heroes The Heavy Pets are festy pros. They've rocked all the big ones including Bonnaroo, All Good, and High Sierra, and have even thrown their own called Pet Zoo. They will throw down for sure at OBJ.

3. Bobby Lee Rodgers Trio

BLR is a jam scene vet who spent years playing beside the legendary Col. Bruce Hampton in the Codetalkers. In recent years, he's been amazing crowds with his nimble-fingered jazz stylings and soulful song delivery, solo and with various ensembles. A truly beautiful player.

4. Fusik

This South Florida quintet delivers a unique sort of funk, which will definitely be a flavorful segment of OBJ 2013.

5. Greenhouse Lounge

Jacksonville trio Greenhouse Lounge has been growing stronger by the year as they develop their live electronica groove. Hold onto your face.

Orange Blossom Jamboree featuring The Heavy Pets, CopE, Bobby Lee Rodgers, The Funky Nuggets, Fusik, Greenhouse Lounge, and more. May 16-19 at Sertoma Ranch in Brooksville, Florida. Tickets cost $60-$90. Visit orangeblossomjamboree.com.
