Tribute to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs at Poprox This Friday

Who doesn't love Los Fabulosos Cadillacs? There are perhaps a small handful of bands that can be credited with founding the Rock en Español movement. But none were more vital to its global spread than perhaps two bands in particular out of Argentina -- Soda Stereo, fronted by the legendary Gustavo Cerati, and of course, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. The Fab Cads have been around for over 20 years, playing a mix of rock, reggae and ska with the unmistakable influence of their South American heritage. Songs like "El Matador," "Mal Bicho," "Vasos Vacios," are classics, and the band only added to its catalog of hits with their release last year of La Luz del Ritmo. That most recent record spawned yet another fan favorite in "Padre Nuestro."

Thus it is only fitting that such a band be the recipient of local tribute.  Thus comes an event this Friday thrown by the local site and the cozy Miami Beach venue. The event is billed as a live performance kind of thing featuring "local talent." Who? Who knows?  None of the sites say, and the promoters won't return calls or e-mails. But local acts covering LFC sounds like a good time anyway, even if you don't know who the hell's playing.

Tribute to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Friday, October 2. PopRox, 2701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Doors open at 10 p.m. Tickets cost $8 in advance from Ages 18+ with ID. 786-246-4902;
