Urine for It

With its constant genre-swirling theatrics, New York City's Mindless Self Indulgence has always been on the outer fringes of popular music. The group's Atari Teenage Riot-style electro-punk fusion has been a consistent middle finger to the mainstream. Not nearly as political as ATR, MSI instead opts for sheer punk-rock brattitude and humor to complement its heavy, uninhibited sound, which has garnered a rabid nationwide fan base.

Featuring singer/programmer/songwriter Jimmy Urine, MSI has toured with bands from Lords of Acid to System of a Down and even played 2004's Coachella Festival alongside Radiohead and the Pixies. Having left its label, Elektra, for Metropolis, the nation's biggest industrial imprint, MSI just released its fourth full-length, You'll Rebel Against Anything. For the live show, expect plenty of brash sonics coupled with eight-bit techno textures, and of course, an in-your-face, impudent splash of Urine.

Mindless Self Indulgence coddles Fort Lauderdale with supporting acts SMB and Flirting Through Violence at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. All ages; tickets cost $15. Call 954-564-1074.
