AAA Offering Free Towing Through Labor Day Weekend

Did you know that Labor Day is one of the busiest travel days on the road of the year? It's true! And this Labor Day weekend will have the most travelers on the road since 2008, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That means the likelihood of being tempted to drive while intoxicated will go up. But there's a solution to that. Free towing. All weekend. So get your drink on and fear not, because AAA's "Tow to Go" program is back to help you get home safely.

AAA is offering free tows from wherever you are throughout the Labor Day weekend, and you don't even have to be an AAA member to take advantage. The tow company's "Two to Go" program will run from Friday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

So, anytime between those days, you and your car can get a free ride within ten miles of where you are if you're too smashed to get behind the wheel.

“This weekend is a great time to celebrate the end of summer with friends and family,” said Amy Stracke, executive director for AAA’s Auto Club Group Traffic Safety Foundation, via a statement. “Please plan ahead to make sure all of your loved ones get home safely.”

So if you find yourself too tipsy to drive this weekend, you can call 855-2-TOW-2 GO (or 855-286-9246) and AAA will send a tow truck your way. The truck will bring both car and driver to a safe place within a ten-mile radius, and — again — it's free. AAA adds that the ride is confidential.

Labor Day weekend is usually heavy on the booze and traffic, so this is one of the best times to take advantage of this service. The service is also available during Fourth of July weekend, Memorial Day weekend, and New Year's Eve.

“The Tow to Go program is an effective way to promote the use of designated drivers and help prevent impaired driving,” says Bill Bradley, senior director of corporate social responsibility for Anheuser-Busch. “We are proud to partner with AAA and their roadside assistance drivers to help keep our roads safe.”

So as you get ready for that coveted three-day weekend that's been creeping ever so slowly and you're making plans to hit up barbecues and get-togethers or just plan on doing more drinking than normal because HOLIDAY, be sure you have a plan. Be it having a designated driver or taking a cab, be sure you arrive home safe.

Don't be a dolt. Don't get behind the wheel or in a car with someone who's been boozing.

Instead, give AAA a call and have them drive you and your car home. It's free. There's really no excuse now.
