Around 2:45 in the video above, you'll see Republican congressional candidate Edward Lynch make a rather explosive allegation: that the U.S. imposed sanctions against Israel and that the effect of those is tougher than those against Iran.
That moment from Sunday's debate on This Week in South Florida With Michael Putney earned a reaction from Florida Sen. Ted Deutch, the Democrat competing for a seat vacated by fellow Democrat Robert Wexler.
From a release Deutch sent to the media early this morning:
[Q]uestioning the commitment of our entire nation to Israel's security by fabricating statements about newly-imposed sanctions shows that Mr. Lynch's interest in Israel's security is political above all else. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has himself come forward to denounce recent political attacks and to reinforce the fact that momentary disagreements of opinion between friends do not threaten the longstanding relationship between our two nations.
Early voting began today, and the general election is slated for April 13.
