Hey, Fort Lauderdale, we’ve dethroned San Francisco as the city with the highest concentration of gay couples in the United States!

::SPRINKLES!::

Awwwww yeah. That’s right.

This, according to recently revealed data from the U.S. Census (the website is down thanks to the government shutdown, so you’re just going to have to take our word for it right now).

The data reports that Fort Laudy, as a whole, has same-sex couples living in up to 2.8 percent of total households, which is HUUUUGE.

The reigning champ, San Francisco, has dropped to third place in the nation with 2.5 percent. (Seattle comes in at number two)

Yup. We beat San Fran so bad, they dropped from first to third.

This news comes even as Florida lags in its quest to legalize marriage, although that will have to take a number in the SHIT THAT WILL PROBABLY NEVER MOST LIKELY UNLIKELY EVER HAPPEN IN THIS STATE waiting room behind gun control, legalized medical marijuana, and the repeal of the Stand Your Ground law.

Still. This is something to celebrate. Because Florida rocks (the people, not the politicians), and the state has always been gay-friendly. It’s high time it gets recognized as such.

There are 19 — count em, nineteen — gay resorts in Fort Lauderdale alone, such as the Grand Resort, the Worthington, and the sexily named Inn Leather.

So, pop some champagne, Fort Lauderdale! WE ARE THE GAY CHAMPIONS OF THE WORRRRLLDDD!!!
