John Goodman Settlement: $46 Million to Parents of Scott Wilson

The lawyers of Wellington polo mogul John Goodman are trying to get him out of jail while he appeals his March conviction for DUI manslaughter, failure to render aid, and vehicular homicide in connection with the death of 23-year-old Scott Wilson, whom Goodman rammed off the road while he was driving rip-roaring drunk in the middle of the night. (Wilson's car flew into a canal; he drowned.)

As part of the request, his lawyers filed paperwork indicating Wilson's family would be receiving $46 million as part of the previously undisclosed settlement, according to the Palm Beach Post.

But Wilson's mother's lawyer pointed out that the money wouldn't even be paid by Goodman -- most of the money came from Goodman's insurance, and $6 million will be paid by the Player's Club, the bar where Goodman was drinking before the accident.

Goodman is set to be sentenced April 30; for more of staff writer Lisa Rab's coverage of the case, check out our 2010 cover story about it or, if you don't have time for all those fancy words, the Pulp's primer on the topic.
