The black Mercedes that smashed through the front door of Windsor Diamonds in Fort Lauderdale this afternoon did not have a political motive. I say this because after yesterday's kamikaze attack on the IRS building in Texas, we're all a bit jumpy about people driving things into buildings where they don't belong.

But in this instance at least, there was no political motive -- nor was this an ambitious version of the smash-and-grab. "A lady just lost control of her vehicle and hit our front door," said the woman who picked up the phone at the jewelry store on SE 17th Street. No one was hurt. They'll just have to clean up the glass and replace the door and granite crushed in the Mercedes' path.

Fort Lauderdale police are on the scene, but I'll go ahead and guess that this is an example of accelerator-brake confusion.
