American tennis fans sick of getting whipped in international tournaments may depend on South Florida -- and Broward County in particular -- for a new generation of stars. This weekend in San Antonio, Jake Albo from Plantation entered that derby by beating Californian Greg Goway in the finals of the United States Tennis Associations Nationals for players 14 and under.

Albo looked as if he was going to be blown out after Goway dominated the first set, 6-1. But Albo rallied, dropping only five games in the next two sets. The youngster is a pupil of the Bill Clark Academy in Cooper City.

His victory came a week after two other young tennis stars with local roots -- Sachia Vickery and Victoria Duval -- won a big tournament in the Czech Republic.
