The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has added urgency to the debate about weaning ourselves from oil. That's no small task in our car-addicted culture. As some activists have pointed out, some solutions include walking more often, riding your bike more often, riding your bike naked, or switching over to an electric car.
That last option is a little easier now that a Tesla Motors store has opened in an unassuming storefront in Dania Beach. Tesla, founded by Elon Musk (the guy who started PayPal), sells zero-emissions high-end sports cars (no dinky Priuses here) that run on electricity, not gasoline. The company has detailed how its innovations can help reduce our dependency on oil (and stop wars!) here.
Unfortunately, a news report today says that former billionaire Musk has said that "I ran out of cash" and that he's living off of loans. The statement comes from his divorce filing.
Yikes -- could Tesla be in danger of folding? (We were waiting on a call from the company's PR department at press time.) Thus it is with even more extreme urgency that you check out one of their cars tomorrow at a free event in Dania.
The Cars and Coffee event takes place from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at the showroom:
1949 Tigertail Blvd., Dania Beach, FL 33004.
You can RSVP to Iris Gaillard [email protected] or call 754-816-3069 to schedule your appointment.
Test drives can be arranged.
